Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 May 2026

Tonight is a group decision tool for picking what to watch tonight. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.

Short version

What information the app handles

Group data

The lists, items, votes, ratings, tags, comments, picks, and any custom streaming services you add live in your iCloud account. When you share a group with friends, Apple's CloudKit handles the share — your devices and theirs sync directly through Apple's infrastructure. The app developer (rswio) has no access to this data.

Sign in with Apple identifier

When you sign in, Apple gives the app a stable but anonymised user identifier. We store it locally on your device and use it to attribute additions, votes, and comments to "you" inside the group. This identifier is never sent to any non-Apple service.

Photo library access

If you choose to attach a poster image to a title, the app asks for permission to read the photo you selected from your library. The image is stored alongside the item in your iCloud account. We do not access any other photos.

Calendar access

If you tap "Add to Calendar" or "Schedule for the group", the app asks for permission to write to your calendar. The event is created locally; no calendar data is sent off-device.

Notifications

If you opt in, the app sends local notifications (daily reminder, comment alerts, watch-party reminders). All notification scheduling happens on your device — no push tokens are sent to any third-party server.

What we don't do

Data location & retention

Your group data lives in your iCloud account. Apple's iCloud Privacy explains how Apple stores and protects it. When you delete a group or remove the app, your local copy is removed; the iCloud copy follows the rules of your iCloud account.

Children

The app is rated 4+ but isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone (children included) because we don't collect data at all.

Changes to this policy

If we ever start collecting or transmitting any data that isn't covered above (for example, if we add an opt-in analytics product), we'll update this page with a clear "what changed" notice and bump the effective date.
